Introduction

“Process impact” is a concept I created to define a series of steps taken towards creating art with an active message, commonly called activist art. It starts with research for information regarding a specific issue the artist wishes to address. Gathered information can then be interpreted and translated into a visual language. The inherent attraction of stimulating visual senses has the capability to open an avenue for intellectual exchange. The experience of viewing and discussing art that exposes related issues and opportunities for change has the power to impact a broad audience.

Process Impact: a national exhibition of activist art, is an opportunity to create the environment in which activist art can be viewed and discussed. Process Impact is a national juried exhibition that will provide young artists who are using art as activism with an opportunity to exhibit their work in a collaborative show. Environmental concern, consumerism, health care, and civil rights are just a few examples of topics open for discussion. This exhibition will create a multi-faceted experience for gallery visitors to view art while learning about important issues and how to get involved.
Murray State University will host this exhibition, funded by a Research Scholar Fellowship, in the Clara M. Eagle gallery located on the 6th floor of the Price Doyle Fine Arts Building. The scheduled dates for the exhibition to be open are April 16-May 2. The postmark deadline to enter submissions in digital format via US mail is January 11th, addressed to: Process Impact, Eagle Art Gallery, Murray State University, 604 Doyle Fine Arts, Murray, KY 42071-3342.
